He volunteers to preach in the church until the pastor can be restored to his position. He thinks he knows everyone in the church and calls them by the various names from Revelation 2 & 3 as he sees them acting like the various churches named in these chapters. The people are either convicted of sin, or encouraged in what they are doing right. Gradually the church-hurts are healed in a humorous way. Something puzzling is going on at the church involving the head deacon who is also in charge of finances. Along the way Roy himself gets arrested for murder, though he is totally innocent. All this happened when Roy began investigating the puzzling occurrences at the church. Through it all, faithful Lee Ann is endeavoring to be the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31 as she meditates upon this chapter, supporting Roy the whole time.
